Aster novi-belgii 'Porzallan' $12.95
English Aster
A exceptional, unusually colored plant deserving of wider recognition. Compact and dense, at only 36 inches, with fall flowers of intense silvery lavender on strong upright, greenish-bronze stems. Memorable alone or when paired with Cyrptomeria japonica.
Frilly, cupped, rich medium-lavender flowers, the most substantial of our Aster offerings, with resonant golden centers, on 40" stems in mid- to late autumn. This blossoms adjacent to to the brilliant red autumn color of Viburnum opulus æNanumÆ in the mixed border adjacent to our nursery. A smashing combination
With both leaves and stems a rich black-purple, the small, pinkish flowers seem almost an afterthought, though of great beauty when in full blossom. Sturdy, dense, upright habit to 2 ft.; we have used this to great effect as a low, summer hedge in our perennial borders. Truly one of the best Asters to come along in many, many years.
Aster novae-angliae 'Lachsglut' $11.95
New England Aster
A tall robust selection found in Germany in 1996, 'Lanhsglut' irradiates the garden with crisp and startling hot pink 2 inch flowers atop sturdy 4 foot stems. We cut this down to half-size in July to delay flowering as well as to fortify its framework. A remarkably dramatic Aster.
Aster novae-angliae 'Purple Dome' $8.25
New England Aster
The glory of autumn, this native Aster is widely adapted and nearly pest-free. Space 18-24" apart. Purple 1-1/2" flowers with yellow centers. This aster blooms Sept-Oct. Full Sun. Ht. 18". *Available for spring shipping only.
A reportedly mildew-resistant selection, to four feet, with white flowers that fade gradually to pink.
