Fountain-like buttons burst from the center of huge 4-5" lilac blue flowers, displayed from early summer right through fall. Classified as a 'rebloomer', yet the flowers keep coming quickly enough that there is really no rest period between the waves of bloom. Like most Clematis, it prefers to have its roots cool and its tops warm, so keep soil evenly moist and top dress with a substantial layer of mulch.
Discovered in the 1980's in Twickenham market in London, after which Clematis expert Raymond J. Evison quickly realized it was one of a kind and worked to develop it into a garden-worthy masterpiece. Sporting an elaborate form and unusual coloring, each bloom begins as a tight ball of thin petals waiting to burst and then fluffs out more and more until it morphs into a gigantic pompon in swirling and varying shades of pink, green, and ivory. The color tends to turn more lilac pink when the plant is given more sun. Exceedingly unusual and quite lovely.
