The sweetly scented tubular orange flowers of this native honeysuckle often attract hummingbirds to the garden throughout the summer. Flowers are followed by bright red fruit, attractive to birds. Unlike its Japanese cousin, it is a well-behaved member of the border. A twining vine, it needs a trellis or fence for support.
Lovely, fragrant pale yellow flowers exploding from June all the way through November. This plant was selected by the VA Native Plant Society for excellent repeat bloom, clean foliage and compact form. Named for colonial botanist, and found on the grounds of a 17th century Abington church in Glouchester, VA. Although perhaps not as vibrant as other cultivars, this beauty blooms steadily and still grabs the attention hummingbirds and butterflies. Bright orange-red fruits in late summer and fall
A handsome selection with glossed dark green leaves in dramatic and theatrical sprays, like an actor trying to enliven a poorly written play, shared with us by our friend Morris West in Pennsylvania. A striking plant we have used in our woodland along the driveway; the glossy leaves catch the lights of our car and sparkle a late-night welcome home. A truly sensational plant for full sun or quite shady positions.
Lonicera nitida 'Baggesen's Gold' $12.95
Golden Honeysuckle
Brilliant, golden yellow foliage best planted in partially shaded conditions due to susceptibility to leaf scald, yet bright enough conditions to retain its wonderful, bright golden yellow color. Easily controlled in height and form by continual pruning. Among the best evergreen shrubs for striking winter effects of foliage. 6 ft.
Lonicera nitida 'Silver Beauty' $10.95
Carpet Honeysuckle
A relatively new cultivar of this species we brought home from LangthornĘs Plantery in England, with small, finely textured evergreen foliage, each leaf neatly emargined with silver white. The total effect is quite lovely, providing a lustrous, shimmery, pewtery fountain of foliage to 6 ft., in full sun or partial shade and any soil.
