This vivid little hydrangea makes a big impression all while staying compact for the smallest of garden spaces. A tidy plant which produces armfuls of ball-shaped, pink-toned blooms against dark green, glossy leaves. Hardy, reliable and easy to grow. No matter how full you may think your garden is, you can squeeze this one in.
A classic white that will thrive in full sunlight and can be cultivated in tubs or pots with little difficulty. Prolific, large heads of pure white become dotted with pink as they age. Lovely, luxuriant foliage colors nicely in autumn if grown in full sun. One of the best. 5 ft.
Hydrangea macrophylla 'Hamburg' (H) $12.95
Big Leaf Hydrangea
A durable and handsome selection with thick, dark green foliage on upright stems and deep blue flowers (acidic) or mauve tinged blue (alkaline) on large heads composed of frilly edged wrinkled sepals. 6 ft.
(PPAF) A remarkable hybridization from Jelena De Belder of Belgium. Loose, nodding, cone-shaped panicles hold pure white florets that are as large as the palm of your hand. A distinctively different look in the garden paired with the deep maroon Cotinus 'Grace'. Flower heads hold well after cutting and look especially nice when dried and saved for indoor display. Give at least some afternoon sun, ample water and a year or two to establish and you'll be rewarded with a desirable specimen.
A prolific and dependable Japanese cultivar with large lavender-blue flowers consistently produced on sturdy stems. Early flowering; best performance in a slightly shaded position.
Hydrangea paniculata 'Unique' $15.95
Panicle Hydrangea
Pure white, obscenely large conical heads with large sterile florets with rounded sepals completely concealing the fragrant fertile florets; one of the largest, if not showiest of the H. paniculatas I have cultivated. Absolutely stunning in our woodland with sturdy stems rising to 10 ft. or more over time. Suited to full sun or partially shaded situations.
