Among the aristocrats of all flowering shrubs, with dreamy, pewter-blue foliage and very fragrant single-pink flowers on arching 6 foot stems, followed by a huge crop of reddish orange hips. Even after the last leaf has fallen in late season, the majestic purplish canes are exceedingly ornamental. Not only should you not be without this rose, it is the perfect choice for presenting a sure-to-be appreciated, heavily perfumed gift to the neighbors. Best in full sun and rich soil.
Adopted from an original Kingdon Ward collection from North Burma at the beginning of the last century. Strong Growing clumps of rather thick stems from a fleshy root and semi-clasping leaves, with a pretty helmet-shaped purple flowers presented in condensed terminal racemes in late summer and early autumn. Partial shade or full sun recommended in evenly moist, cool, peaty soil.
