Shasta' displays a profusion of extra large, pure white flowers that are larger than those found on other cultivars. Viburnum propinquum $12.95
Viburnum
Distinctly narrow, beautiful, glossy evergreen foliage and bright red petioles, with white flowers followed by metallic blue fruit on this elegant species to 6 ft. On the border of tenderness, we have used this to good effect on the north side of our home, where we can appreciate it from our kitchen throughout the year. One of my favorites of all the evergreen Viburnums that can be accommodated by our mild maritime climate.
This large, upright species to 15 ft. sports dark, leathery green leaves very similar in appearance to V. davidii on steroids. Upright white flower clusters, produced mid-summer into autumn, result in electric blue fruit on pink pedicels. Content in partial shade or sun in any soil with some summer irrigation.
Maple-like leaves emerge in spring a striking bright yellow and retain a strong coloration throughout the summer if grown in full sun. White flowers in late spring result in large crops of bright red fruit, in perfect complement to the foliage. We use this as a dependable and strong component of our mixed perennial borders, where it supports a blue Clematis in late summer. This will be most colorful in full sun situations while fading to lime green in partially shaded sites, in any soil that properly drains.
An Outstanding new pink-flowered selection from New Zealand. Unlike other touting 'pink' blooms that fade to varying shades of white after initial first-year bloom, 'Molly' is consistently pink year after year. It's also an excellent rebloomer, providing and exceptional fall floral display when paired next to Cotinus 'Grace' as a foliage contrast.
With their abundance of flower, handsome foliage, robust constitution, and frequently stunning fruits, viburnums are among the most beautiful and versatile hardy shrubs available to gardeners. Yet despite these outstanding qualities, there has never been an entire volume devoted to them û until now. In this definitive, comprehensive, generously illustrated guide, internationally renowned woody plant expert Michael Dirr provides a wealth of information about every species and cultivar worthy of horticultural consideration. Dirr details each plant's height, spread, foliage, habit, floral characteristics, fruits, special traits such as fragrance or attractive bark, hardiness, origin, cultural needs, and overall garden appeal. These finely judged appraisals make it easy for the gardener or designer to choose the right plant for the right situation.
